A few days ago as we were lying in bed Nadri asked me if I wanted to watch a movie upstairs before going to sleep. I said no thanks because I was too tired.

Him: Why are you so tired?

Me: I just finished my work out.

Him: Is it really THAT tiring?

I felt so offended when he said that so I challenged him, “Why don’t YOU try it yourself?”

He looked at me to see if I was joking and said, “Sayang, please, I was a national athlete okay. I used to live in the gym.”

(He was a national bowler back in the day)

Me: Oh yeah? Well let’s see you do the 2 minute plank.

Alayna was already sleeping so we didn't want to switch on the lights.
And please excuse the laundry #lifewithoutamaid

10 seconds on and he could still smile.

Then his knees started shaking.

He then attempted to do the side plank.

"Macam lagi senang je ni."

He rolled over and just laid there, panting.

Me: Sayang, you can’t be done already? There are 7 more workouts to do!

Him: Whatever. I was a national athlete.

How I Lost Inches By Doing Simple 30 Minutes Work Out From Home

If you know me personally, you would know that I am obsessed about my weight. Especially since I got pregnant and saw myself balloon up to crazy proportions.

It took me 8 long months to lose all the baby weight.

But you see, slimming down is one thing, maintaining it is a whole different story.  Some people go back to their old habits after they have reached their target, and then they wonder why they are packing on the weight again.

And by some people, I mean me.

Sometime last year I weighed myself and I got the shock of my life when I saw the scale read 51. FIFTY FRIGGIN ONE!!! As I stared incredulously at the scale, I had flashbacks of all the late night nasi kandars, the Serai tiramisus, the half dozen cupcakes that I could finish in one sitting, the weekend Nasi Lemak Pak Ayob and the KFCs that I had in the last few months.

I only had myself to blame.

Since then I:

I am on a strict 1300-1400 calorie diet. I highly recommend downloading the ‘My Fitness Pal’ app.  You key in everything that you eat and they will calculate the calories for you. It helps to keep you on the right track.

I hardly take rice/pasta/bread. Those who have gone to weddings with me know that I only eat the lauk. If I must have rice then I would only take like 2 tablespoons just to satisfy my cravings for it.

So what do I eat then? A lot of proteins like chicken, meat and fish. As well as veges and fruits. And the occasional desserts. Making healthy food choices does not mean you have to starve yourself. You just gotta know which option is healthier.

Say you’re eating at a restaurant, do you order pasta or roast chicken? Both will make you full but roast chicken has way less calories.

If you’re craving for fish, do you order fish & chips or grilled fish? Always choose grilled items because anything fried is bad and has more calories.

If you go to the mama stalls, do you order nasi goreng or capati?

Just by making choices like that you could cut back hundreds of calories a day.

I used to take my meals or snack on junk foods while watching my favorite TV shows like Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy (not a fan anymore since they killed of Derek Shepherd like wtf what’s the point of even watching anymore).  It’s the worst habit you can have cos you will absent-mindedly stuff your face and the next thing you know a bag of chips and 2 candy bars are safe in your tummy. That’s like 2000 calories right there, in 40 minutes.

The last time I had McDonalds was 4 months ago in Paris, and that was only because we were too tired from lugging our luggage around the airport and we just wanted to sit down and have a decent meal before we flew back home. Apart from that, I refuse to eat them. My house is junk food-free too.

Here’s something for you to ponder on. Why do you think these foods are much cheaper  (McD's McValue meals are only RM6) as compared to clean and healthy foods? Because they’re overly processed and are mostly made of chemicals. For example, potato chips like Pringles have been processed beyond comprehension that they are not even real potatoes anymore. They’re basically cancer in a can.

Or green tea. They actually help boost you metabolism! Sugared drinks especially carbonated drinks and drinks like teh tarik have crazy amounts of calories. No more coke and ice for me L

These are pretty much what I did 4 years ago when I wanted to lose all the baby weight, only this time, I’m making it a permanent lifestyle change instead of a temporary thing. Within a month I lost 3 kgs and went back to 48kgs and have been able to maintain the weight until today.

Sometimes when I upload pics of the occasional fatty food/desserts that I’m having on Instagram, I would hashtag #cheatday #fuckcalories etc.

I bet some people are thinking that this skinny bitch must be fishing for compliments, probably expecting people to say “Babe, you’re already thin why are you dieting?”

But here’s the simple truth. I know my body. I know I have the fat genes. I know that my metabolism has slowed down A LOT. I know that I could easily gain weight easily especially with my hugeee appetite and when I do gain weight the first places that will show are my cheeks and hips (and they’re the last ones to slim down too ugh!!).

WISH I could be one of those girls who could eat anything and everything and still remain a size zero. But unfortunately I am not.

So I got no choice but to keep eating healthily.

I do indulge once in a while, but most of the time this is what my plate looks like:

 Just lauk, no rice.

But despite getting my weight back, most days I still felt fat, to a point where I sometimes wondered if maybe I was anorexic. Then about 3 months ago, my weight dropped to 47kgs. And yet, I had a muffin top, a bloated tummy and jiggly arms.

I thought, okay, this is insane!! Am I not thin enough? How much lighter do I have to be? For my 168cm height, 47 kgs means my BMI is 16.65 which is wayyy below the underweight BMI of 18.5

For reference, here's the BMI for the Victoria's Secret models:

Adriana Lima - 17.6
Candice Swanepoel - 17.7
Alessandra Ambrosio - 16.3
Doutzen Kroes - 17.9
Behati Prinsloo - 17.1
Miranda Kerr - 16.8
Rosie Huntington - 17.1

So how come my body is a far cry from them despite having a lower BMI?

After lots of Google-ing, I found out that I am SKINNY FAT.

Which means I am thin, but my body composition has more fat than lean mass (muscle).

Here’s the definition for body composition (from wiki):

“Body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle in human bodies. Because muscular tissue takes up less space in our body than fat tissue, our body composition, as well as our weight, determines leanness. Two people of same sex and body weight may look completely different from each other because they have a different body composition.”

And here are some pics to illustrate this point:

 (Pictures courtesy of Google)

See? You can weigh the same but with a lower body fat percentage, you look leaner. In the 2nd picture that girl looks skinnier even though she is 3 kgs heavier than she was before. I was so relieved after I found out cos I knew I wasn’t crazy, it was not all in my head. I had legit reasons to feel fat.

The only way to gain more muscle mass is by doing strength training. Cardio helps you to lose weight while strength training helps you to tone up. Since I don’t want to lose any more weight, I don’t do cardios (taking care of Alayna is cardio enough for me).

See those abs and bubble butt? They’re not going to magically appear no matter how thin you get. You gotta werk werk werk for them.

It has been 3 months now and I have to say that omfg IT WORKS you guys!!!!

My weight remains the same, I fluctuate between 47-48kgs but I am losing inches off my thighs, waist, hips and arms. And I finally have a flat stomach! I am so happy I could cry.

This is me wearing my UK 8 pants. They used to be slightly lose cos I wear UK 6 but now.. :O

Here’s a list of the workouts that I do. The best part is, they can be done at home. It’s perfect for people like me who does not have the time to go to the gym.

2 minute plank
1 minute side plank (each side)
30 push ups
30 sit ups
30 tricep dips (each side)
30 tricep kick backs (each side)
30 bicep curls (each side)
30 squats
I do them twice, morning and night. Sometimes when I am too busy, I can only manage to do them once but I never miss a day, except for rest days. Usually I finish them in 30 minutes. If I have more time I would add some other workouts like mountain climbers, lunges or Russian twists. You can choose the type of workouts you want to do depending on the areas that you want to tone up.

The first time I did it, I could only do a 5 seconds plank and only 4 sit ups I swear. I was so damn unfit I felt like such a loser haha but I took my time and I did what I could. As I got stronger I gradually did more reps, added more types of workout and started using weights. I couldn’t be bothered to go to a fitness shop to get the dumbbells so I use this:

Tabung Haji's tabung that is filled to the brim with coins hahahaha.

It’s quite heavy ok, about 3 kgs.

Alternatively you could use a bottle that is filled with sand.

From my experience, strength training requires determination and discipline. The first 3 weeks you will see NOTHING so it’s easy to conclude that it’s all bullshit and give up. Luckily I’m the type of person who will do whatever it takes once I have put my mind on something. So I persevered.

After about a month I could see only a slight change. By the second month my pants became loose and my love handles were almost gone. That’s when I knew for sure that it was working.

Now, 3 months along, I have started developing those vertical lines on my abs T_T (tears of joy and disbelief)

Needless to say, I am hooked. Everyday I look forward to working out. Me, the most pemalas person to exercise. I know I won’t get the perfect VS body (you have to let go of sugar almost completely for that and there’s no way in hell I’m going to give up desserts), but I am happy enough as it is.

I have a new found respect for VS models. They are actually crazy fit. Have you seen their workout videos on YouTube??? They make exercising look so effortless even after 30 minutes, like it’s a breeze, as if they’re just sipping cocktails by the beach. But by the time I'M done with my workouts, I look like I’m literally dying.

Anyway, here's to a healthier lifestyle!

How I Lost My Chanel Bag In Nice, France

I wanna write about our Euro trip last May, where we went to Italy, Switzerland, Monaco and France. Obviously I can't do it in one post so I'm going to start with Nice, France because that's where I did one of the stupidest things in my entire life.

We left for Nice from Florence by train. There is a train that goes from Florence to Ventimiglia and then from there we would have to take another train to Nice. But instead we went back to Milan and then took the Trenitalia straight to Nice.

I don't remember why though. Nadri was in charge of booking the train tickets and when he told me about it sometime in March while we were planning this trip, I didn't really pay attention because I was busy doing more important things like, you know, working out my outfits for the trip and deciding if I should trim my bangs or not (in the end I did but the hairdresser cut them too short so for the first half of the trip I had to pin my bangs back ugh I just hate it when they do that even after I have showed them exactly what I wanted).

Us on the train back to Milan.

Then we switched to Trenitalia. There are 4 stops from Milan to Nice. If I'm not mistaken, the whole journey took about 6-7 hours in total.

On board Trenitalia.

It was a long trip but I didn't mind cos the view was beautiful.

But then again, we were not that impressed cos we went to Switzerland earlier on this trip, and once you have taken the train (or driven) in Switzerland, especially across the Swiss Alps, nothing else compares. Switzerland should have been the last stop in our itinerary. It kinda spoiled the rest of the cities for us -_-

In case you get hungry/bored/feeling peckish, there's a bar in one of the coaches. The only hot food available was an eggplant lasagna. Definitely not worth the 10 euros that I paid for it.

Alayna entertaining herself.

And then she pooped.

And then she slept.

And then mommy took some selfies. I mean, what else was I supposed to do?

The Nice Ville train station.

My travel buddy.

View from the street of our apartment.

When we reached there, the owner was on the way to meet us to handover the keys to the apartment. A couple walked by and they kept looking at us. Finally the lady came over and greeted us in French with a smile. Realising that we don't speak French (I learned in uni but now I'm completely useless), she tried to speak in English, telling us that this is a residential building, not a hotel. I said that we were renting the apartment and the owner was on the way. She wished us a pleasant stay and waved goodbye. I thought that it was very nice of her. She probably saw us looking all tired with lots of luggage and a toddler, and was probably worried that we didn't realise that we were at the wrong place.

After settling in, we went out for dinner and found a Halal restaurant! I was sooo happy I was gonna eat meat that night. We couldn't find any halal places in Italy and Switzerland so we only had seafood and vegetables to a point where I would rather eat a piece of paper than eat another grilled salmon or mushroom risotto.

Looked like crap but who cares? Meat was coming!

It was one of the best meals of my life. Finally, some normal rice (not the risotto kind). I don't even eat rice (I'm on a strict no rice diet) but that night I didn't care. Finished them allllll.

Went to sleep very happy :)

Woke up the next day to this view from the apartment's window. Amagaddd I could see the French Riviera!! Our apartment is right behind the infamous Negresco Hotel (that building on the left), which is right on Promenade Des Anglais, so we were just a block away from the beach.

On our way to the promenade.

Why you so grumpy babe?

The Negresco Hotel.

Such a perfectly bright and sunny day.

On the left you have all these pretty and colourful buildings...

... And on the right you have this:

Côte d'Azur.

I absolutely loveee the south of France! No wonder when we told our French friends Claire and Xavier (Melbourne Uni mates) that we had been to Paris, they were like, meh, Paris is incredibly overrated and told us to go to the south of France.

Now I know why.

This looks kinda creepy, like I'm floating in the air.

The beach is so beautiful that we just had to check it out even though I was not properly dressed. And by that I mean I was wearing 5 inch heels.

Photobombed by that sexy stud.

Aww :')

Then we continued to explore the city.

Posing ke bang? XD

Mercedes/Audi/BMW/Porsche as Taxis is a norm here.

This is Place Massena, the main square of the city.

Love how the tram just passes through the city, reminds me of Melbourne days.

I just had to.

Being all touristy.

While looking for a place to have lunch, we found another branch of last night's halal restaurant woohoo!

Playdoh kept lil missy happy and occupied.

 Meat = Happy Tia.

Then we had gelato at Amorino.

When it comes to ice cream, she's very impatient.

She refused to share.

Once she had fallen asleep, we headed to H&M cos I needed to get some clothes and flip flops for the beach. I didn't think that I would go to the beach so I didn't pack for it.

Tram tracks right smack in the city.

I spent almost 2 hours in H&M while Nadri patiently waited with the sleeping Alayna. After trying on about 57 dresses and hats, I got what I wanted and we continued sightseeing the city. In my mind I was all excited thinking about going to the beach.

We passed by a beautiful church and I asked Nadri to go across the road and take my picture. Oh the things that he has to put up with... Hehe

Then he saw a video game store and practically left me behind.

I followed him inside and tried to find a chair because I knew that this was definitely going to take forever. I reached out for my bag on my shoulder to get my phone, but wait a minute...

It had just dawned on me that I was not carrying it. It wasn't on the stroller either!! I told myself OK. Don't. Panic. Maybe it was with Nadri. Maybe he was holding it for me.

But deep down I knew that it was highly unlikely because I don't like him touching my bags (psycho alert)  so I never ask him to carry them for me. And also because I think men carrying their gfs/wives' bags look weird.

Anyway, I found him and all he had in his hands were those damn video games.

At that point my heart just stopped and I literally felt like I was going to pass out.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit!!

Suddenly I could recall clearly in my mind that I had hanged my bag on one of the clothing racks in H&M while I tried on a stupid hat in front of the stupid mirror. I must have completely forgotten about it and continued shopping.

So I said, "Sayang.. I think.. I, um, left my bag at H&M."

Now you see, it is VERY hard for Nadri to get mad at me. He's just a really laid back guy. But when I said that to him, I could tell that he was sooo angry. And I don't blame him.

I left my CHANEL bag in a store, walked away, and then happily took pictures omg what the hell is wrong with me?! (if you scroll up and look at the last 3 pictures, they were taken after we had left H&M and I wasn't carrying my bag)

It was, without a doubt, the most careless and the stupidest thing that I have ever done.

What made it so hard to stomach is the fact that it's not that easy for me to buy Chanel bags. They cost an arm and a leg. I'm not a trust fund baby. I don't have rich parents/husband who could shower me with all the luxuries in life. I don't get things at the snap of a finger. I work hard to get what I want, which is why I really value and appreciate the things that I spend on.

I hurried back to H&M, praying the hardest for it to still be there where I left it.

When I reached the store, I suddenly became this super paranoid psycho. I felt like everyone was being suspicious and I started frantically scanning every single person that went in and out of the store.

No sign of the bag.

I rushed in and went straight to the particular rack where I left it.

My heart sank.

It was gone.

It was freaking GONE.

I looked around and went paranoid again. I even followed these 2 girls because I thought they took my bag. They were looking at me with shifty eyes. Or at least I think they were. I was unstable then so it could have just been my wild imaginations. I got closer to them and tried to peek inside their huge handbags.

No luck.

Then I searched the entire store twice, all two floors, hoping that I was wrong and that I had left it somewhere else instead.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I wanted to throw up. I could not believe that this was actually happening. And to think that I had left the bag in H&M, of all places?!! I can never forgive myself for this. I will never buy a Chanel bag ever again.

All I wanted to do was go home, as in go back to Malaysia. I didn't care about the trip, I didn't want to go to Monte Carlo and Paris anymore. I screwed up big time and I just wanted to get away. This was the worst trip ever.

Nadri was waiting for me downstairs. I told him that the bag was gone. He just shook his head and didn't say a word. Yup, he was very pissed alright.

Then he said curtly, "Ask the sales assistants."

I was like, what the hell for? Obviously someone had found it, and inside it there were lots of euros, an Iphone 6 plus and a blackberry. No one would return it, duh.

I once left my phone somewhere at the mall, went back 10 minutes later to get it and it was nowhere to be found. Nadri accidentally left his Tag watch in his office's bathroom last year. He went back to get it not long after and it was already gone. He went to lost & found, nothing. He works in a bank so you'd think that the people would be more, you know, civilised.  But nope.

I didn't dare to say that to him though so I just went up to the cash register and asked one of the girls if they had seen a bag.

She asked me to describe it.

I said, "Silver/gold-ish bag with chain straps."

And then she turned around, opened a cupboard and took out my bag!!

My eyes opened wide and my jaw dropped to the floor.

She handed it over to me with an amused smile (probably cos she saw how shocked I was) and said, "Here you go, a customer found it and gave it to us just now. Be careful next time."

I wanted to hug her. And kiss her. And buy her shoes.

Wow.. I guess people in Nice are just really really nice. I mean, remember that lady who wanted to make sure that we were at the right place when we arrived? And now this. I love this city even more! T_T

I clutched my bag tightly (but not too tight, calfskin can be delicate) and profusely thanked her, teary eyed.

Nadri saw me holding the bag as I was walking towards him. His scowl turned into a smile and he said,

"Thank god you found it. But how could you be so careless???"

Whatever dude.

Andddd we were back to taking pictures rofl!!

Alayna was still napping, totally oblivious to all the drama that had just happened.

Switched to flip flops that I bought cos I was so damn tired from all the running and going up and down the store trying to find the bag.

Out and about for dinner.

We hit the jackpot and found halal Indian food! Definitely gonna burst my calorie quota.

Hello cheese naan.

Hello briyani.

Hello tandoori.

Hello dhal.

Hello butter chicken!!

Then we had Amarino gelato again. I deserved it okay after all the emotional distress that I went through.

She fell asleep on her stroller on the way home. Parents, if you're travelling with kids, a lightweight umbrella stroller is a must. It's a lifesaver.

All set for the beach! Thank god I found my bag. Otherwise I would have burned all of those things that I bought at H&M and never set foot in the store ever again haha.

I have an obsession with latino women so I was thrilled that I got a bit tanned from Venice and Florence. Both cities were blazing hot when we were there.

The airport is very near, every 2 minutes or so an airplane would fly by.

That's how clear the water is.

The weather was hot but the water was freezing. Still, I just had to take a quick dip cos it's the French riviera! Who knows when I will be back so what the heck.

Matching shades.

We really should have stayed longer in the south of France. I had no idea that it would be so beautiful and fun to explore. There are plenty of picturesque cities but we only managed to go to Nice and Cassis. Oh well, no choice la. Have to come back here again sometime =D
